The educational trails in the Jizera Mountains Protected Landscape Area and the interpretation of the environment in which they are located
Svárovská, Eliška ; Rynda, Ivan (advisor) ; Bittnerová, Dana (referee)
My thesis is in the field of social and cultural ecology, which examines the relationship between nature and society. I focus on mediating this relationship through research on selected nature trails found in the Jizera Mountains Protected Landscape Area. In the theoretical part, I describe the protection of nature and landscape, then I focus on the Jizera Mountains where the research took place. I mention the three-phase learning model related to the trails, as they are meant to educate us, and I also discuss interpretation. Finally, I describe the phenomenon of nature trails in general. In the empirical part, I mention a subchapter on mobile QR code technology and present the application Stepping Off the Trail for visitors of the nature trails. In the following subchapters, I focus on evaluating the nature trails using a methodology I have devised. I evaluate both verbal and non-verbal elements, focusing particularly on a comprehensive evaluation that includes an overview of interpretive panels and the thematic integration into the environment. I also examine how the nature trails present the concepts of nature and its protection as a whole, related to the learning model, and I include the five principles of proper interpretation set forth in the Methodology of Principles and Methods of...
Al forms in acidified surface waters - toxicity and trends
Šimková, Petra ; Hruška, Jakub (advisor) ; Hořická, Zuzana (referee)
This thesis deals with forms of aluminium occurring in acidified surface waters. Special attention is paid to inorganic monomeric aluminium, fraction, which has toxic effect on some species of aquatic and terrestrial biota. The thesis primarily focuses on the analysis of surface water, groundwater and soil water chemistry in the year-round and long-term monitoring. The practical took place on an experimental mountain basin Uhlířská, which is drained by river Černá Nisa. Uhlířská basin is located in the Jizera Mountains and represents the area which was significantly exposed to the acid atmospheric deposition in the second half of the 20th century. Long-term exposure to acid precipitation caused the acidification of soil and watercourses, forest degradation and deforestation of large parts of the basin. Decrease in pH and an increase in concentration of toxic aluminium also caused species depletion of aquatic ecosystems. Monomeric forms of aluminium were determined spectrophotometrically, the concentration of total aluminium was determined by the method of flame atomic absorption spectrometry (FAAS), in case of low concentration electrothermal atomic absorption spectrometry (ETAAS) was used. Five forms of aluminium were obtained - Altot, AlAS, Alm, Alo and potentially toxic Ali. Appart from...
Nature and Historical Characteristics of the Jizera Mountains
Procházková, Michaela ; Teodoridis, Vasilis (advisor) ; Hlaváčová, Lucie (referee)
This bachelor thesis describes natural relations and history of the Jizera Mountains. First part is focused on geological and geomorphological processes creating the landscape and also on climatic and hydrological aspects. A second part gives an account of flora, which is a little reduced due to poor mineral subsoil. The exceptions are peat-bogs. These ecological subtypes represent the most valuable and the most important biotope of the Jizera Mountains. There we could discover a lot of unique and protected species of plants and animals. A history of the Jizera Mountains mapping here the settlements from prehistory age to modern times is also described in detail. Neither I do not forget to mention a development of textile and glass industry, which are also very important for this region at the field of economics. The deportation of the Germans after 2nd World War was an essential event resulting in almost complete displacement of the Bohemian border region. People have returned to the mountains due to tourism and a phenomenon of "the summer cottage" at 60th and 70th years of 20th century. A question about protection of the most specific comes out with an increasing quantity of visitors in this area. In the last part of the bachelor thesis is focused on this topic. This thesis has especially educational...
Connectivity of black grouse habitats in the Jizera Mountains and the Giant Mountains
Pánek, Michal ; Romportl, Dušan (advisor) ; Chuman, Tomáš (referee)
This master's thesis deals with the evaluation of habitat requirements followed by an analysis of the connectivity of black grouse (Tetrao tetrix) habitats in the area of interest of the Jizera Mountains and the Giant Mountains. This species has been one of the most endangered species in the Czech Republic in recent years. Recent grouse populations are constantly declining, and therefore habitat and connectivity assessments can be applied to future protective measures of this species and subsequent population expansion. The introductory part of the thesis deals with a search of existing knowledge and research related to the assessment of connectivity, landscape resistance and habitat models. It also includes a description and distribution of the various connectivity assessment approaches currently used in these analyzes. The next part of the thesis contains important information about the studied species, the current state of populations in the Czech Republic and what are the habitat requirements of the black grouse. Subsequently, the characteristics of the area of interest are described in detail, which includes both the Czech and Polish parts of the Jizera Mountains and the Giant Mountains. The research part of the thesis first deals with the methodology and process of creating habitat models,...

Rybí společenstvo vybraných toků Jizerských hor
DOLEŽAL, Tomáš
Fish communities of selected streams of the Jizera Mountains The watercourses of the Jizera Mountains have the character of trout and grayling zones, with occurrence of indigenous populations of brown trout (Salmo truta morpha fario) and protected fish species. Fish communities have been disturbed in the past century by an increased degree of acidification of the environment, with the disappearance of native fish species from some localities. Subsequently, the brook trout (Salvelinus fontinalis) was introduced in these localities, and in some of them created sustainable populations capable of natural spawning. At present, in order to improve the environmental status of many localities, efforts to replace these stocks by the indigenous species of fish, brown trout and fathead minnow (Phoxinus phoxinus). The fish populations are also negatively affected by the fragmentation of watercourses and water use associated with the operation of hydropower plants. Attempts are currently being made to allow fish migration by bridging migration barriers by building of fish laddders. The aim of this work was the ichthyological research of the River Smědá. 10 localities on the river were electrofished and 14 fish species were found, of which three belong to the endangered species (Burbot (Lota lota), Bullhead (Cottus gobio), fathead minnow) and one species was non-native (brook trout) Based on a survey basic characteristics of the communities were determined (abundance, dominance, biodiversity and evenness). High species diversity (13 species) and biodiversity (H' 2.38-2.97) were found in the localities under Frýdlant. In the localities above Frýdlant was a lower species diversity (5 species) and biodiversity (H' 0-1.65), due mainly to the nature of the flow, but also influenced by insurmountable barriers, which make fish migration impossible

Chudobová, Andrea ; Rynda, Ivan (advisor) ; Kutáček, Stanislav (referee)
The thesis is based on the idea of extension the Krkonoše/Karkonosze transboundary biosphere reserve by Jizera Mountains territory. Biosphere reserves are established within the Man and the Biosphere Programme of UNESCO. According to the Madrid Action Plan it is necessary for the sake of appropriate functioning of biosphere reserve to involve all the stakeholders, including non-governmental organizations. Using semi-structured interviews with the representatives of the Jizera Mountains non-governmental organizations I therefor asked them about their opinion of the extension of the Krkonoše/Karkonosze transboundary biosphere reserve by this area and their willingness to participate in cooperation within the biosphere reserve as well. I investigated their sustainable development capacity, which in the same time represents their possible contribution to the biosphere reserve. The research shows that non-governmental organizations accepts the idea of the extension of the Krkonoše/Karkonosze transboundary biosphere reserve by Jizera Mountains. Together with it their potential for backing the appropriate functioning of biosphere reserve in this territory was proven. Keywords Man and the Biosphere Programme of UNESCO, biosphere reserve, sustainable development, non-governmental organizations, Jizera...
